Not all home care agencies operate the same way. The difference between a good experience and a frustrating one often comes down to continuity, communication, and how carefully caregivers are matched.
Questions worth asking
- Do you prioritize the same caregiver for each visit?
- Who answers the phone when I have a concern — a coordinator who knows our file, or a general call centre?
- How are caregivers screened, trained, and supervised?
- Can we meet the proposed caregiver before care begins?
- What happens if our needs change or a caregiver is unavailable?
Red flags
Frequent last-minute substitutions, vague answers about credentials, pressure to sign long contracts before a clear plan exists, or difficulty reaching a real person are signals to look elsewhere.
